HOLLAND KOI SHOW 2016 Seminar-2

Breeding Koi just means getting water under control.
What I want you to put into practice is to check and measure water condition every day.
When sun shine on the pond, algae and moss are supposed to photosynthesis  and
discharge oxygens as such that pH  will be increased.

Therefore, measurement should be made at fixed time period  if possible.
Check point to be measured
● Water temperature
●pH
●NH3
●NO2
Other than above, it would be better idea to measure NO3, Conductivity, GH on regular
basis, not necessary  required every day though.

Switching the subject to filtering from now on.
Filtering can be broken down into generally following three categories.

●First category is Physical filtration
Filtering is to be made in such way that organic substances as like leftover feed,
fallen leaves, excrement will be
separated and kept temporarily.

In Japan, filter mat, brush are commonly used for this purpose, whereas in Europe,
drum filter is the one.
However, invisible matters such as protein is to be dissolved into water so that those
will not be dealt with but pass through.

It ends up in contaminating water.
Same goes for ammonia which Nishikigoi put out.

●Second category is Chemical filtration
What is called as chemical filtration is to purify the water by the effect of ion-exchange
such as zeorite.

●Third category is Biofiltration.
Biofiltration works in such way that decomposes substances like proteins coming out
from organic matters
of fallen leaves, left-over feed, excrements, mucous of Nishikigoi.

That decomposes ammonia as well.
Incidentally, Nishikigoi puts out ammonia from its gills by 80 % all the time.

The most important filtration among those three types of filtration is Biofiltration.
